9 detained over exam cheat claims
Nine people have been detained on suspicion of cheating in the national college entrance examination in Nanchang, capital of east China’s Jiangxi Province.
The first, a 47-year-old surnamed Zhao, is alleged to have recruited people to sit the test, known locally as the gaokao, on behalf of others. He was taken into custody on Sunday in the city of Jiujiang in Jiangxi, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
The second is a 20-year-old surnamed Peng who is accused of being one of the surrogate exam-sitters recruited by Zhao, the report said.
Peng is a native of Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, police were quoted as saying, adding that an investigation is under way. Seven other people have been detained, but no details were released.
