9 hurt as knifeman runs amok in shop
NINE people were injured yesterday in a knife attack in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, police said.
A man surnamed Zhou attacked staff and customers at a Hualian supermarket in Jiangnan District of Nanning, the region’s capital, about 3pm, after quarreling with staff, local police said.
Six workers, two customers and a visiting salesman were hurt in the incident, said a manager from the supermarket who declined to be named.
All nine are being treated at the nearby No. 2 People’s Hospital for injuries mainly to the back, waist and stomach, police said.
Witnesses said the suspect was shopping in the supermarket at noon but came back later claiming the cashier had forgotten to give him the noodles he’d bought, the manager said.
After arguing with the cashier, he pulled out a dagger and stabbed him. He then attacked people in the vicinity, the manager said.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene. A police investigation is under way.
