9 trapped in flooded Guizhou coal mine
RESCUERS have established contact with three of nine miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in southwest China's Guizhou Province, according to local authorities.
Nine miners were trapped underground and 32 others were lifted out of the shaft safely after a flood struck the mine in Weng'an County at around 10pm yesterday, the county government said.
Firefighters, Public Security police and other relevant departments have joined in the rescue.
The coal mine, reported to have an annual output of 90,000 tons, belongs to Yunda Coal Mine, which has obtained a production license from the authorities.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
