93 million to cram railway this summer

The Shanghai Railway Bureau is expecting to send about 93 million passengers during the summer holiday this year. The travel peak from July 1st to August 31st is predicted to have an eight percent increase from last year.

According to the Bureau, in the next two months, the railway stations will be packed with a lot of train travelers, especially students. The Yellow Mountain and multiple cities such as Suzhou, Wuxi, Hangzhou in the neighboring provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang will become popular destinations, causing railway lines, namely Shanghai-Ningbo, Shanghai-Hangzhou and Shanghai-Beijing, to be extremely busy.

The railway authority said that for the next two months, they plan to add 35 pairs of trains to popular city stations in neighboring provinces, as well as five pairs of extra trains to Xinjiang’s Urumqi, and the provinces of Jiangxi and Henan in order to meet the demand.

Meanwhile, as stated by the authority, after the adjustment of a few bullet train railway routes in Anhui Province in July 1st, the travel time of the journey from Shanghai to Guizhou Province will hopefully be shortened from the current 26 to 27 hours to a mere nine hours.
