A microblog of courage
A MEMORIAL service for a man who used his microblog to chronicle his cancer fight was held in Beijing yesterday.
Xu Dawei, 40, died of liver cancer on January 29.
His final words - "I am gone. I will see you in the next life." - were posted on the Internet by his family following instructions in his will, The Beijing News reported.
Xu's mircroblog on t.sina.com.cn attracted more than 6,000 followers and his final posts drew nearly 20,000 comments praising his courage.
Xu's wife, Lin Jun, said the site would continue so sufferers could share experiences.
Xu came up with the idea of a microblog on November 9, the day he was diagnosed with the last stage of liver cancer, but he couldn't start it for a month because he was so ill.
"My husband dictated several posts to his brother when he was receiving chemotherapy," Lin said. "He was having intravenous injections on one hand and his other hand was paralyzed because the tumor was pressing on a nerve."
Lin added: "We had to keep him awake in his final days as once he fell into sleep, his lung function was in danger of shutting down. But he continued dictating posts."
