A schoolboy then, Chan's back as a star
HONG Kong singer Eason Chan spent much of his formative years studying in the UK, and says he's looking forward to returning this month as one of Asia's biggest pop stars.
The "Duo Eason Chan" tour makes a stop in London on April 23, with Chan set to become the first Chinese artist to perform at the iconic O2 arena.
Chan said that when he first heard about the O2 show, he was nervous. "It's a world of uncertainties, you know?" the 37-year-old star said.
But his nerves were calmed pretty quickly, with the initial 10,000 tickets selling out in 20 minutes, prompting organizer to allot 6,000 more.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chan went to school in the UK for several years. In 1995, he returned to Hong Kong and won a singing competition. Seventeen years and more than 30 albums later, he is one of the best-selling Mandarin and Cantonese pop artists.
Now, he gets to return to the UK as part of his current tour, which kicked off in Hong Kong last month and will see him perform 57 concerts in 35 cities and nine countries.
"I love touring and I'm really grateful that I have enough songs to tour, not just in China. I can actually go around the world with all these Chinese songs," he said.
After London, Chan will return to China, where he will wind up his tour in mid-July.
