A shameless hit-and-run driver offends the public
PUBLIC anger is mounting after a drunk driver, who killed a girl and injured another in a campus hit-and-run in Hebei Province, said he was not afraid of lawsuit because his father was a senior police officer.
Police in the city of Baoding detained Li Qiming, 22, and declared to punish him according to law in response to online criticism triggered by Li's words.
The accident happened when Li drove a black Magotan car at an estimated speed of 40 kph on the campus of Hebei University on Saturday night. He hit two rollerskating girls when passing a grocery store.
Li left the scene and kept driving until a crowd of students and security guards blocked the road. After getting out of the car, Li shouted "Sue me if you dare" and claimed his father was a local police chief, witnesses told China News Service today.
