A sheep and a deer to get married on Valentine's Day

A Valentine's Day wedding will be held in a zoo in Kunming, southwest Yunnan Province where a sheep and a deer fell in love and drew great interest and blessing from many people, China News Service reported yesterday.

The male sheep Changmao and the female deer Chunzi were found making love in November and the Yunnan Zoo posted a picture of their mating on a microblogging site.

The post soon aroused great interest. While some zoologists doubted their true affections, most people supported the idea of keeping them in the same pen.

The zoo workers had tried to separate the pair because Changmao has other kids to take care of, but the two lovers resisted their efforts stubbornly. Changmao turned restless and aggressive and even hurt his own kids.

Their persistence moved their keepers and a wedding has been planned for this unlikely couple, the zoo said.

During the ceremony on February 14, a "wall" will be put between Changmao and Chunzi, as a local custom, and Changmao has to break through the wall to see his bride. Then, they will be led to an arch with "I Do" written on it and eat a carrot together to symbolize their union.

However, the zoo revealed that it is impossible for the couple to produce their own offspring because they belong to totally different species.
