Abducted boy home just two days later

A BOY in Guangdong Province has been reunited with his family about 50 hours after he was abducted, thanks to quick action by local police, yesterday's Guangzhou Daily reported.

The boy, whose age and name were not disclosed, is one of four abducted boys Dongguan police have rescued recently during a crackdown on child trafficking, the report said.

The boy was reported missing on the night of April 23 while playing with friends outside his home in Dongguan City's Xiegang Town.

The friends said a woman had enticed them to a store by offering money to buy candies, and took the boy away.

Police soon identified the abductor as a woman surnamed Zhang, a 27-year-old native of Xiegang Town, who was caught in Shantou, a neighboring city of Dongguan, on April 26.

The boy was found at the home of a couple who had agreed to pay 18,000 yuan (US$2,637.62) to Zhang.

After further investigation, police rescued another five-year-old boy, whom Zhang abducted and sold to a teacher surnamed Peng for 15,000 yuan in October 2007.

The five-year-old kid was reunited with his father 18 months after his abduction following DNA tests.

Dongguan police have rescued 138 children and caught 318 suspects involved in 122 abduction cases of a total of 243 reported since 2000.

They formed a special squad in 2004 to investigate child abduction.

Guangdong police have set up a DNA databank and those rescued children would be sent home after DNA checks.
