Acid murder suspect detained

THE final suspect sought by police for a murder nine years ago in Xi'an, capital of northwestern Shaanxi Province, has been detained.

Huang Guangxue was escorted back to Xi'an earlier this month. Along with three accomplices, he is alleged to have killed a woman, dissolved her body in sulfuric acid, chopped up the remains and thrown them away, China Business Daily reported yesterday.

Police received tip-offs in December 2009 claiming Xin Yunzhe, a former director of a government institution, killed his partner, surnamed Wang, who mysteriously disappeared in November 2002.

Xin, 68, lived with Wang, who was 20 years his junior, for around 20 years and they had a daughter. Fearing Wang would expose an affair he was having to his employer, Xin conspired with Jin Gongli, Jin Gongkai and Huang to murder her.

Xin, Jin Gongli and Jin Gongkai were detained by police in January 2010.

Huang was seized in Dongguan, southern Guangdong Province, while visiting his wife.
