Actor affair apology sets Weibo record

A CHINESE actor’s apology to his actress wife following rumors of his infidelity has set a record for comments and retweets on Sina Weibo microblog.
The scandal surrounding film and TV star Wen Zhang has resonated among Chinese partly because of his image as a sensitive family man.
Wen Zhang posted a statement early on Monday that his wife Ma Yili, who is eight years older than Wen, “and their two children could have had a warm and nice life, but everything was destroyed by me.”
By yesterday, his post had been forwarded more than 1.2 million times and received nearly 1.9 million comments.
Many comments expressed anger toward Wen, who has more than 52 million followers.
Sina Weibo earlier said that most people discussing Wen’s post were educated women and girls aged 24 and under.
His tweet broke a record set by singer Faye Wong in September when she announced via Weibo that she was getting a divorce.
But it was still far behind the record 3.4 million retweets on Twitter garnered by American chat show host Ellen DeGeneres for her selfie with a host of stars at the Oscars in March.
