Added floors cause new residential high-rise to sink
WORKERS are demolishing a newly-built 18-floor apartment high-rise in Taizhou City, eastern Zhejiang Province because the building was sinking.
Completed only this January, the building has a foundation to support the weight of 11 floors. But the developer added seven floors, causing the support pillars to crack and the whole building to subside.
However, the local construction administration said the plan for added floors had been examined and approved, a news portal, www.qq.com, reported today.
The Blue Bay International Community was dubbed the biggest sea-view residential development in Taizhou City. It was built on land reclaimed from the sea.
Authorities have conducted a safety check on other 14 buildings in the complex, the report said.
