Additional Security Measures
BEIJING has started inspecting vehicles going in or out of the capital to ensure safety during the annual legislature and political advisory sessions, the local traffic bureau said yesterday.
The round-the-clock checks focused on vehicles with seven seats or more, and trucks carrying hazardous chemicals.
Vehicles with safety problems must be fixed within a set period or be taken off the road, the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau said.
Beijing authorities have also implemented the level I plan for fire control, the highest level of alert, at Tian'anmen Square in the downtown area.
The top alert plan asked all volunteer firefighters serving the area to be on duty and step up patrols to close fire-risk loopholes.
