Aid for girl who lost scalp in go-kart race

THE family of a young girl whose scalp was torn off by the wheel of a go-kart has received cash donations after the public learned that the family couldn't afford the girl's skin-graft surgery.

Jiang Shiqi, 7, was riding a go-kart in an amusement park in Jiangxi Province on June 1, the Children's Day. When the mini racing car started, she was thrown backward and her hair was caught in a rear wheel and her scalp was peeled off, China News Service reported today.

Though she was sent to a hospital immediately, the doctors failed to save her necrotic scalp. Her father said she needed more than 10 skin-graft surgeries in two or three years. The first four surgeries already cost them nearly 300,000 yuan (US$48,930).

The couple has used all of their savings and even mortgaged their house. They didn't know how to raise another 500,000 yuan to cover future medical costs.

Their plight was reported in the local media recently and people donated nearly 13,500 yuan for the family.
