Air force’s high-sea drills ‘routine’
RECENT drills by the Chinese Air Force are regular, routine military activities, an air force spokesman said yesterday.
The flights were about the mission and responsibility of the Chinese Air Force, and were legitimate, reasonable and justified, spokesman Shen Jinke said, responding to media reports of Chinese warplanes flying over the South China Sea, Bashi Channel and Miyako Strait.
The Air Force has dealt with various disturbances and tested its blue water war capabilities since it started carrying out routine drills on the high seas two years ago, Shen said.
The Air Force is a strategic military force, he said, and its strategic power should match with its national interests. It will continue to conduct regular high sea drills and further improve its capabilities in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests.
