Airport intruder held in administrative detention

ONE passenger has been penalized with a seven-day administrative detention for intruding the flight control area of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to protest flight delays.

The passenger surnamed Liao refused to follow the instruction of airport staff, pushed his way to the tarmac and encouraged other passengers to follow him on April 13 after heavy rains delayed flights, Guangzhou police said yesterday.

Later they were persuaded by airport police to return to the boarding area.

Two days before on April 11, 28 Shenzhen Airlines passengers rushed onto the tarmac of Shanghai's Pudong International Airport to demand compensation for flight delays caused by a thunderstorm.

The incident caused an Etihad Airways jet from the United Arab Emirates to stop taxing into its boarding bridge.
