Airport police said to use pepper spray to stop unruly crowd
AUTHORITIES in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province are investigating whether airport policemen used pepper sprays on some passengers who tried to force their way to the boarding gate on Sunday, The People's Daily reported yesterday.
A Lucky Air flight scheduled to take off at 14:55 from Kunming for Nanjing had to be cancelled because of dense fog in Yichang, a city in Hubei province where Flight 8L9985 was supposed to make a stopover.
About 20 to 30 of the 133 stranded passengers grew angry and rejected two solutions offered by Lucky Air, according to Liang Xiaosha, an airline spokeswoman.
One witness told the newspaper that some passengers tried to forcibly enter the boarding gate, then airport policemen sprayed pepper juice on them. No one was injured in the incident.
About 40 stranded passengers took a flight the next morning and all the 133 passengers left Kunming yesterday, said Liang Xiaosha.
