Alarm over animal torture
AN animal rights activist has written to two websites in China asking them to delete a video of a girl torturing and eventually killing a young rabbit, said the Animals Asia Foundation (AAF).
"Allowing people to post videos showing images of animal abuse provides these individuals with a platform for their cruelty," said David Neale, animal welfare director with the Hong Kong-based AAF, in his letters to the two websites where the video clip was initially seen on the Internet.
Some videos showing brutal torture of animals have been posted on the Internet in China recently. One of the most widely viewed depicts a woman putting a glass plate onto a rabbit and then sitting on the plate crushing the animal to death.
Neale asked the websites to remove such videos "on the grounds of morality."
He added that such videos may encourage people "to carry out more acts of animal abuse and post them online."
