Alert goes orange for cold spell
A COLD wave will force down temperatures by up to 14 degrees in north, central and east China over the weekend, the National Meteorological Center said yesterday.
The center issued an orange alert for the cold wave, warning that most areas would suffer temperature drops ranging from 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, while in others they might plunge by 12 to 14 degrees Celsius through to tomorrow.
Weather experts reminded people to rug up against the drastic temperature drop, especially during the current A/H1N1 virus outbreak.
The Ministry of Health said on Thursday that nearly 80 percent of China's total flu infections were caused by the A/H1N1 influenza virus.
There will be gales during the cold weather and strong gusts over water, the meteorological center said. The orange alert means temperatures are expected to drop by 12 degrees Celsius within 24 hours.
