All police to face exam on abilities
ALL Chinese police officers will this year have to sit an examination for a qualification on their ability to carry out their duties, said Yang Huanning, vice minister of public security, yesterday.
Last year, the ministry issued a circular on the qualification examination, ordering all police officers - some 2 million - to take the basic examination, according to Yang at a symposium on the standardization of police work, in Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
Officers are encouraged to pass examinations for intermediate and senior ranks in order to get promoted.
According to the official, the qualification is valid for five years, after which an officer must sit the exam again.
