Alleged embezzler caught

A banker who allegedly embezzled hundreds of millions of yuan has been arrested about a week after he fled, police reported yesterday.

Liu Weining, a branch head of Yantai Bank, was caught near a railway station in the eastern city of Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, on Tuesday, police said. Liu fled the city of Yantai in eastern China's Shandong Province at the end of January.

Liu allegedly stole 436 million yuan (US$69.76 million) in cash from the bank between April 2011 and January 2012. He reportedly had 290,000 yuan in banknotes with him when he was caught.
