American TV serials removed from video Websites
AMERICAN TV play fans have found recently that all the American TV serials have disappeared suddenly from those big video Websites.
Insiders said a latest notice of intellectual property strategy in radio, film and TV issued by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television on November 12 was a major reason for the sudden disappearance, Chongqing Evening News reported.
The notice required a severe crackdown on copyright violation on the Internet and put emphasis on TV plays from America, Japan and South Korea.
The administration also issued a notice in April 2009 that banned online spread of films, TV plays and animation films without permits.
Now, big video Websites that have or plan to get listed on the stock market are collecting capitals to buy copyright of American TV plays.
Ku6.com, which was listed on the Nasdaq stock market last year, said it would join with Sohu.com to invest millions of dollars to set up a foundation to buy copyright of foreign films and TV serials.
Youku.com, which is preparing for being listed on the stock market, has bought copyright of some American TV plays, such as the latest serials of "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy," through offices of Warners and Disney in China.
The Websites all said so far netizens could still watch the TV plays free of charge though the cost had highly increased. While an insider revealed that some video Websites were planning a charged video-on-demand system, according to the Chongqing Evening News.
Meanwhile, the video Websites are also trying to produce TV plays themselves. Some have won high clicks.
Apart from the Websites, netizens also have their own ways to watch those hot TV plays.
Some senior fans said netizens can register on verycd.com or PPS player to watch the hot plays online. While some netizens sent the plays to mailboxes of members of online groups.
