Ammunition smuggler gets 7 years

A RETIRED police officer from Hong Kong has been sentenced to seven years in jail in east China's Jiangsu Province after being found guilty of smuggling ammunition.

Dennie Ho Kit Keung, 54, had mailed 974 air gun pellets, 67 military bullets, 63 military cartridge cases, five blank cartridges, and three packets of gunpowder to a man surnamed Wang in Jiangsu's Huai'an City from 2006 to 2007, according to the Jiangsu Province Higher People's Court yesterday.

Ho was detained by police on August 19, 2007, at the Luohu Port in Shenzhen, when he was bringing seven sporting gun bullets into the mainland, the court heard.

He was sentenced to seven years in jail in December 2008 at the Huai'an Municipal Intermediate People's Court, and was fined 3,000 yuan (US$441). Ho appealed, but the sentence was upheld by the Jiangsu ProvinceHigher People's Court.
