Anger at fine for grave sales

ANGER has greeted the punishment given to a legislator who made hundreds of millions of yuan from illegally selling cemetery plots in south China's Guangdong Province.
Tanxi Township government in Shanwei City signed a contract with Lin Yaochang in 2008 to maintain Anfu Cemetery.
It was intended to serve the local community but Lin Yaochang expanded the area of graves and sold every one to out-of-towners, whistleblower Lin Jianguo said.
Lin Jianguo says Lin Yaochang sold some 8,000 graves ,earning 300 million yuan (US$48.23m.)
Anfu Cemetery didn't require cremation certificates, creating opportunities for illegal burials.
Even the cemetery itself didn't have land use approval in advance, Nanfang Rural News reported today.
Local civil affairs bureau in Lufeng City, under the administration of Shanwei, confirmed the violations, but fined the cemetery only around 80,000 yuan.
"It's ridiculous that the bureau just fined so little. It just shielded Lin Yaochang," Lin Jianguo claimed.
