Anger over Australia PM’s comments
CHINA yesterday criticized remarks by Australia’s Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Japanese aggression during World War II.
Hosting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Abbott expressed his admiration for the “skill” of Japanese forces. “We admired the skill and the sense of honor they brought to their task, although we disagreed with what they did. Perhaps with a change of heart the fiercest of opponents could be the best of friends,” he said.
“Japanese fascist invaders brought profound suffering to people during World War II. Their aggression was extremely brutal,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said. “I believe anyone with a conscience will disagree with the remarks.”
