Angry folks mob police cars in Hunan

OVER thousands of angry people in a county in southern Hunan Province besieged and overturned two police cars on Wednesday to protest the rough handling of local traffic police, China.com.cn reported today.

Hengdong County Party Secretary Liu Yunding said the incident occurred around 7:40am Wednesday when police were dealing with a motorcyclist who violated the traffic rule and their rude behavior angered onlookers.

Microblogs posted on the Internet said the traffic policemen beat the motorcyclist surnamed Cao, but the allegation has not been confirmed by police authorities.

The crowds began to dissipate three hours later after the county Party secretary Liu Yunding arrived at the scene to end the confrontation. A probe into the cause of the incident is continuing.
