Another CNPC official probed
THE Party’s disciplinary inspector at the state-owned petroleum giant CNPC is the latest to be implicated in a corruption scandal that began in August 2013.
The news first broke on business news website, caixin.com, on October 9. It reported that Wang Lixin, head of the Party’s discipline inspection team of China National Petroleum Corp, was taken away for questioning before the National Day holiday.
Wang’s last public appearance was on September 19 when he was visiting oil enterprises in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
CNPC hasn’t commented on the reports yet. But The Beijing News reported on Wednesday that Wang’s personal profile on the group’s official website had been deleted. However a publicity official, whose name was not revealed, told the paper that Wang’s current position remains unclear.
The corruption scandal has already brought down a number of senior CNPC executives, including former board chairman Jiang Jiemin, former deputy general manager Li Hualin and former Party chief of CNPC Kunlun Natural Gas Exploitation Company Ltd.
Just like Wang, the three men had worked at China’s second largest oil field, Shengli Oilfield, run by China’s largest oil refiner Sinopec. The Beijing News suggested that their downfalls were linked to alleged violations during their terms at Shengli Oilfield.
After Jiang took charge of CNPC in April 2011, he moved Wang from Sinopec to CNPC and promoted Wang to the top job as inspector, Caixin reported.
