Another bird flu death ups toll to 18
CHINA reported another death and five new infections of H7N9 bird flu yesterday, raising the death toll to 18.
The H7N9 virus has been found in 96 people, mostly in eastern China. The latest victim is a 69-year-old man surnamed Xu from Zhejiang Province who passed away on Friday night.
One of the new cases was confirmed in Shanghai, bringing the total number of infections in the city to 33.
The patient, a 75-year-old woman surnamed Li, tested positive for H7N9 on Friday night at the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Shanghai Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission said.
