Another business whiz says he'll give all away
ANOTHER Chinese entrepreneur has turned philanthropist, pledging to donate all his money to charity upon his death, following the lead of the most generous businessman on Chinese mainland.
Feng Jun, CEO of Beijing Huaqi (Aigo) Information Digital Technology Co, a leading electronics product maker, made the announcement on the company's website and his microblog, reported yesterday's Yangtze Evening News.
The 41-year-old business leader promised to donate his entire fortune to domestic charity organizations so that "he would not die with regrets," the newspaper said.
His words received warm online applause as hundreds of netizens left praise and encouraging comments, with some calling on more business giants to follow Feng.
Feng's company, Aigo, a leading Chinese maker of MP3 players, portable storage devices and digital cameras, has maintained steady annual growth of 60 percent since its establishment in 1993.
A report by BDA China Ltd, a Beijing-based research firm, put Aigo's 2006 revenue at 2 billion yuan (US$290 million).
Feng became the second business leader on Chinese mainland to give out all wealth to society. The first was Chen Guangbiao, CEO of a resources recycling company in Jiangsu Province, who wrote in a letter to Bill Gates and Warren Buffett this week that he was willing to donate his net worth under their Giving Pledge initiative.
Chen, often called China's most generous philanthropist, holds a fortune of nearly 5 billion yuan. Chen has already donated 183 million yuan in the first half of this year.
