Another inmate dies in prison

PROSECUTORS in Hebei Province have begun investigating the death of a prisoner.

The family of the prisoner, Li Zhiqiang, 21, said his death was not natural and had found blood in his mouth, nose and ears and bruises on his back, today's Yanzhao Metropolis Daily reported.

They reported the case to Chengde People's Procuratorate yesterday and the prosecutors have launched an investigation.

Officers at the Shangbancheng Jail, where Li died, said there would be an autopsy.

Li was imprisoned for 46 months in November 2007 after being arrested for stealing in Beijing.

On April 14 he died after fighting with another inmate.

Prison officers told his family he died of a heart attack.

But his family said the young man had been healthy.
