Another uni applicant lies about ethnicity

THE Peking University Health Science Center is discussing whether to enroll a Chongqing student who falsely claimed he was from an ethnic minority to get extra marks in the national college entrance exam.

It is the second case of a Chongqing student lying about their ethnic identity for extra marks.

Liu Mingli, director of Peking University's recruitment office, said the Health Science Center is responsible for its own enrollments but pointed out the university would not enroll another student who lied about his ethnic background, the Chengdu Commercial Daily reported yesterday.

Tian claimed he was Tujia, not Han, as minority students get an extra 20 marks in the examination.

Tian's parents acknowledged the cheating and withdrew the application for extra marks after the Chongqing government began to investigate.

The recruitment office of Chongqing Municipality said it had found 31 students had lied about their ethnic identities but did not reveal their names.
