Aphrodisiacs sure to flop, agency says
THE China Food and Drug Administration yesterday urged people not to purchase health supplements that purport to increase sexual potency, as all such claims are false.
The government has never approved supplements that claim to “invigorate the kidneys and boost sex drive,” the agency said in a statement.
Food safety cases concerning such products have risen sharply since last year.
The supplements are generally sold in backstreet stores and sex shops, the administration said.
The problem is that the people who are cheated by them are too embarrassed to report the matter to the police.
Registered health supplements in China fall into 27 categories. The administration allows products that offer to help people boost their immune system, reduce cholesterol and lose weight.
The agency asked people to report anyone they find trying to sell sex supplements.
