Apple to replace some iPhone 6S batteries for free
APPLE China is offering free battery replacement for some faulty iPhone 6S products manufactured between September and October, 2015, the company said in a statement yesterday.
“Apple has confirmed that a few iPhone 6S devices might have unexpected power-off problems,” said the statement on the company’s website.
“This is not a safety problem, and it only involves phones with certain serial numbers, which were manufactured between September and October, 2015.”
Customers can go to any Apple store or authorized service provider to have the serial number of their device checked to get a free replacement. Other models with the same problem are not included in the current replacement plan.
The global fix comes after Shanghai Consumers Association required Apple to act after it received reports of iPhones shutting down despite half their battery life remaining.
Some iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S users around the country reported the problem of phones unexpectedly turning off and not being able to be restarted, despite battery levels higher than 50 percent.
The company said the malfunction first had to be confirmed by tests at Apple’s headquarters in the US.
In its statement, Apple said customers should also first fix other damage which could affect the battery, including broken screens.
Qualifying phone owners who have already paid to replace the battery may be get a refund after contacting the company.
