Around the world in 80 days package launch

A local travel agency is launching a global travel package - said to be the most expensive ever sold in China.

The 80-day trip by HHtravel covers more than 25 countries in several continents, as well as taking in the North and South Poles.

At 1.18 million yuan (US$189,336) per person, the package is China's most costly ever, said You Jinzhang, chief executive officer of HHtravel.

An anticipated 10-strong group will depart from Hong Kong in February 2014, say organizers. Visa applications could take at least six months beforehand.

Travelers will spend the first week in Oceania, visiting tourism spots including the Great Barrier Reef and Ayers Rock in Australia.

They will then fly to visit Easter Island in the southeastern Pacific before traveling on to South America, where highlights will include a trip to a carnival in Brazil, said You.

Then the Silver Explorer liner will take travelers to the South Pole to visit various islands and scientific research centers.

From Antarctica, the travelers will call at Paris before heading to the North Pole to see polar bears and the aurora borealis.

They will finish the trip in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

HHtravel launched a similar global travel package last year. That cost about a million yuan was sold out within a day.

Bookings can be made through a hotline on 400-690-9811 from March 18.
