Arrest over murder of five-year-old

A man was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of a five-year-old girl in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou newspaper City Express reported today.
Police allege the suspect, surnamed Zhao, killed the 5-year-old girl, identified as Qiqi, on Monday evening, while attempting to rape her.
The child's father, surnamed Lao, had asked Zhao to look after Qiqi for a little while at about 9pm Monday.
Ten minutes later, Lao returned and found Qiqi and Zhao gone, the report said.
Lao and his wife called police after searching in vain for hours.
Zhao was found in his cousin's home at about 3am yesterday. He claimed that he didn't know where Qiqi was, said police.
Two hours later, the blood-covered, near-naked body of the child was found hidden beneath a farm truck, the report said.
Qiqi's body was discovered near to where her father had left her with Zhao.
Zhao is said to have admitted strangling the child while assaulting her, as she was defending herself vigorously and he feared her screams would alert passers-by.
