Arson charge in deadly bus fire
Police in Changsha in central Hunan Province arrested a man suspected of setting fire on Wednesday to an airport shuttle bus that caused an explosion and killed at least two people.
The suspect, Shen Haitao, 36, was arrested eight hours after the fire in a hospital where he and other victims were sent for treatment.
Shen allegedly lit a canvas bag full of inflammable material, Changsha Police said without specifying what was in his bag.
Police did not say what motivated Shen to commit arson. The investigation is still going on.
Shen, from Hunan's Yiyang City, arrived at Huanghua International Airport in Changsha on Wednesday afternoon, hopped on a shuttle bus to the downtown, and lit up his bag on the full bus on an expressway.
Flames soon engulfed the entire bus. Shen opened the window and jumped out.
Two people were killed in the fire. Three were seriously injured while 11 others had minor burns, police said.
The front part of the bus was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Last year, a similar arson took place in southwestern Chengdu City. A passenger lit a can of gasoline and caused an explosion that killed 27 people and injured dozens more.
