Assistant dean caught in murder case
AN assistant dean suspected of killing his superior at a university in Jiangxi Province has been caught, police told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
Police said the suspect Zhang Jun, 42, admitted he killed Li Changjiang, 39, dean of the School of Politics and Law at Jiujiang University, in their office on campus at 9am on Monday. Zhang allegedly pulled the body to a lift lobby before burning it to destroy Li's face.
Zhang left the scene without being noticed.
Li's body was discovered on Wednesday by police, who searched the school after receiving a missing person's report from the college.
Officers were told Zhang had long held a grudge against Li over trivial disputes. However, police declined to reveal more details.
The university's Party Secretary Chen Mianshui said earlier that Li was an honest teacher with great abilities and was promoted to dean at a very young age.
Chen added Li's death was an "enormous loss."
