At least 30 missing as mudslides bury Yunnan town

At least 30 people are missing after mudslides slammed a remote town in Yunnan Province early today, local authorities confirmed.

The number of the people missing in the mudslides was placed at 10 in a separate news report filed earlier today.

Days of torrential rains triggered the mudslides in Puladi Township, Drung-Nu Autonomous County of Gongshan, local officials and police at the scene said.

Roads, power supplies and telecommunications in the area were cut due to the mudslides.

The mudslides struck close to an iron ore mine at about 1 am.

It was not immediately known if they caused casualties, as contact with local residents high in the mountains bordering Myanmar was not established.

No further details were provided.

A mudslide killed 11 people at the construction site of a hydropower station in Puladi Township on July 26.
