At least 6 dead in driving rampage in Fuzhou as divorcing man identified as suspect

AT least six people including three young students were killed after a driver believed to have had a divorce hearing in the morning went on a rampage on a street in his wife’s village at noon today in Fuzhou, capital of southern China’s Fujian Province.

Police said six victims were confirmed dead and 13 people were injured, and they would continue to update casualty figures.

The three dead students were reported to be a sister and brother struck by the car.

The rampage took place when schoolchildren were being released for their noon break — a majority of the victims were students.

The suspect, 37-year-old Lin Jianxin, was brought under control by police with a hydraulic water gun, local media reported.

The speeding car smashed into several other vehicles and about 20 people over a 2-kilometer stretch of the countryside road before it broke down due to severe damage, it was reported.

Lin's divorce case began being heard at a local court at 9am today. Court workers said he appeared to behave normally when they left the court. The verdict was not announced yet.

The man later appeared in his speeding car in the village street in Minhou County. It was his wife’s home village. Police suspected his rage over the divorce could have triggered his actions.
