At least five killed in Shandong gas outburst
AT least five people were killed after a gas outburst in a SINOPEC plastic plant in Shandong Province yesterday, the company said today.
The accident happened at about 8:38pm yesterday when workers were filling production facilities with nitrogen during maintenance work, said an officer with the SINOPEC Qilu Company Ltd., which owns the plant.
A pipe became dislodged and gas suddenly burst out, killing two people at the site and three others died later in the hospital after emergency treatment failed, the company said. One worker was injured.
An initial investigation found bad work practices were to blame for the accident.
