At least one injured in Sichuan earthquake

AT least one person was injured and one house collapsed after an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale hit southwest China's Sichuan Province early today, local earthquake administration said.

The injury was reported about two hours after the quake jolted the border area between Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality at 5:36 am (Beijing time), said an official with the Sichuan Provincial Earthquake Administration.

A team led by Lu Yipei, deputy director of the administration, was heading to the quake-hit area to carry out further investigation.

China's national seismological network said the epicenter was at the juncture part between Sichuan's Suining City and Chongqing's Tongnan County (30.3 degrees north latitude and 105.7 degrees east longitude), with a depth of about 10 kilometers.

No big earthquake had been reported in the past in the area. Seismologists in Sichuan were still not sure if the quake was an aftershock of the 8.0-magnitude quake in Sichuan on May 12, 2008, which left about 87,000 people dead or missing.
