Attacker hits a man with car, then sets him ablaze

A Jeep driver knocked down a pedestrian in Shenyang, capital of northeast Liaoning Province on May 29 and threw six bottles of gasoline to burn the victim up. Though the driver quickly escaped, local police have identified him, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

The 58-year-old victim surnamed Tong was critically injured with burnt area covering 95 percent of his body surface. Sources close to the victim said the suspect might be his relative and attacked him over a love affair. But this was not confirmed by the police.

The incident occurred in Tiexi District of Shenyang at about 11:30am on Sunday. Witnesses said the car followed the victim and then hit him. When the driver got off and found the victim was still alive, he took six bottles from the Jeep and set the victim ablaze.

Firefighters and an ambulance arrived soon after, put out the fire and rushed the victim to hospital, but the culprit had sneaked out of the crowd.

The victim's neighbors said they all recognized the blue Jeep as it used to park near their building. They guessed the suspect had planned this attacked for a long time.
