Attacks prompt tougher security at schools

AUTHORITIES in several provinces have added police patrols around schools to prevent further incidents like the slaughter of eight children in Fujian last week.

Police in Beijing will escort students to and from kindergartens, elementary schools and high schools, reported Beijing Times today.

Schools will also hire a security monitor to relay daily information about campus safety to the police. They will receive special police training, the report said.

Other provinces are also stepping up school security after the knife attacks. Police in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, will also escort students at rush hours. Furthermore, police will be armed with batons, pepper spray and daggers, reported East Morning Post today.

Security patrols around schools will also be added to make sure the police can respond quickly to emergencies.

Many schools have restricted entry to outsiders. Visitors are allowed only after ID verification and registration.

Jinan Police Station in Shandong Province has dispatched two policemen to each school to protect students, reported Qilu Evening News.

Former medical worker Zheng Minsheng allegedly stabbed eight pupils to death and hurt five others who were waiting for the school to open last Tuesday morning outside Nanping Experimental Elementary School.
