Aunt of boy whose eyes were gouged out jumps to death in suspected suicide attempt
Police are investigating the death of a woman who was the relative of a six-year-old boy whose eyes were gouged out last Saturday in a village in northern Shanxi Province.
The woman, her name not disclosed, was found drowned in a village well this morning in Zhuzhen Town. Her husband is the uncle of the boy, Guo Bin, Beijing News reported.
A villager said the woman had been in a confused state of mind since yesterday. Police are investigating whether her suicide has a connection with the boy’s torture.
Guo Bin said a woman with a non-local accent called his name and led him to a field not far from his house on Saturday evening and dug his eyes out with a tool. Police found his eyeballs in the field the next day, but doctors said the boy will be blind for life.
Local police have offered a 100,000 yuan (US$16,340) reward for information leading to the capture of the woman.
