Aviation official commits suicide
A SENIOR Chinese aviation official has thrown himself in front of a train, the Xinhua news agency said yesterday, attributing his suicide to ongoing corruption investigations that have shaken the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
Liu Yajun, the 50-year-old head of CAAC's Central and Southern Regional Administration, killed himself on Thursday afternoon. He took office in February 2009 after being deputy director of CAAC, Xinhua said.
Four senior aviation officials have lost their jobs due to charges of corruption since the start of the year.
"His colleagues said Liu was a decent and easy-going person and his death came as a shock," Xinhua said.
"Another suspicion regarding the suicide was that Liu had tired of the internal politics within the authority."
A corruption investigation of the chief of CAAC's North China Regional Administration, had triggered further investigations.
