Awkward baby holder mistaken for abductor

THE man who was taken away from a downtown Metro station yesterday afternoon by police for investigation on suspicion of baby trafficking turned out to be innocent, police said today.

Fellow passengers grew suspicious of the young man who was holding a baby clumsily and unable to stop the baby from crying. A middle-aged man observed him holding the baby in a Metro toilet for a long time without doing anything to stop the cry followed them into a train and asked him to explain his relation with the baby.

The young man was speechless and couldn't say a word to explain. Other onlookers surrounded him and began to call the police.

The incident caused the train to wait a bit longer at the Hailun Road Station for the arrival of police and the whole operation of Line 4 was temporarily stopped for a few more minutes on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the young man was traveling with two women. One of them is the baby's mother. He is just their friend.
