Ayi turned killer to get salary paid early

An ayi told a court that she killed the 70-year-old woman she had been hired to take care of because she needed paid quickly.

He Tiandai, 45, told Guangdong Intermediate People’s Court on Wednesday that it was a rule the employer had to pay a month’s salary even if the job ended in less than a month.

“I confirmed with the woman’s family before I started to work that if the old lady died very soon, I’d also get paid,” she said.

The salary agreed was 2,500 yuan (US$386).

He said that on December 16 last year she fed the woman broth laced with sleeping pills and insecticide and also injected it into her body. She then strangled her with a piece of rope.

“I fed her like feeding a baby and gave her shots,” she said.

At the time, He had been working for the family for just three days.

After they were called in by the woman’s relatives, police found insecticide, sleeping pills, syringes and rope among He’s belongings.

Asked why she had such items she said: “I always carried all those things with me since 2009. I need the chemicals to sanitize the home, the sleeping pills to help myself to sleep well and the rope to bundle up my clothes.”

Prosecutors told the court that police allege He killed another seven people between June 2013 and December 2014 by the same means, but there was no evidence because the bodies had been disposed of. They also alleged two failed attempts.

He denied any involvement in these cases.

The court will announce its verdict later.
