BaWang admits link with newsroom attack

THE BaWang shampoo maker whose products have been alleged to contain carcinogen admitted that one of its workers had attacked a Shanghai-based newspaper.

The National Business News, which ran several investigative reports on the scandal-ridden company, said four men claiming to work for BaWang came to its office at 4pm on Sunday. They attacked an editor and several reporters. Police were called in and 11 people were taken away for investigation.

Yang Zhenshu, public relations manager with BaWang, confirmed to Beijing News today that one of the four men was a BaWang worker but his act was only an "individual behavior." The identities of other three men were still unknown.

A company executive with BaWang named Shen Xiaodi said she would not apologize to the newspaper until the police investigation yields a result.

Before the attack, the newspaper was raising questions about BaWang International Holdings Ltd and its alleged Chinese medicine background, which the company bragged about in TV commercials.
