Baby born in tent amid aftershocks
A young woman gave birth to a boy today with the help of medical workers and volunteers in a tent in Lushan, the epicenter of a deadly earthquake that hit western Sichuan Province on Saturday.
People held pieces of cloth to curtain around the woman as she struggled to deliver the baby on a makeshift bed in Taiping Town. The baby was born at 10:16am this morning amid aftershocks.
Yang Yan, 20, and her husband Chen Wei decided to name the baby Chen Qirui. The name has the meaning of "praying for good luck" in Chinese.
The woman was carried to a medical team in Taiping Town over a rugged route from their remote village. The journey took more than three hours.
