Baby boy has surgery after hand gets stuck in escalator
A one-and-a-half year old boy had 9-hour surgery to save his right after it had become stuck in an escalator at a shopping mall in Hubei Province, Changjiang Daily reported today.
The boy’s hand got wedged in the bottom of the escalator when he fell out of his mother’s arms, the mother surnamed Zhao told the newspaper through tears.
Zhao said she was taking her son to a children’s amusement area in the shopping mall when the accident occurred, according to the report.
Local firefighters rushed to the scene and removed the boy’s hand from the escalator.
A surgeon was cited as saying the surgery lasted longer than usual because a baby’s blood vessels are narrower than those of adults.
The boy is recovering well, added the report.
